the STUDENTS of Campus School are receiving a mediocre education

As the issues of Campus School are discussed among former and current parents; I am reminded of the issue that really bothers both former and current parents of Campus School.  Remove all the pettiness (Lea Anne Bedsole, Jill Hollis and Chontel) and at the end of the day the STUDENTS of Campus School are receiving a mediocre education.  As mytwosons states, Campus is no longer teaching the WHOLE child.  Campus School (in an effort by Chontel) has begun teaching to the state standard test.  For example, the article in the DNJ today about IXL Math, if you Google IXL Math and pull up the website the first thing you will notice is “Tennessee state standards”.  Again, a tool that teaches to the test!

The fact is, as it continues to be pointed out to me, that the children of Campus School are missing valuable skills and knowledge because they are a low percentage of the state test, but a high percentage of LIFE knowledge.  When parents took their children to be tested at other schools McFadden, Discovery and private the children (very bright by Campus standards) reported to their parents, “there were things on the test I have never seen.”  Children removed from Campus are struggling or are behind at other schools.

Parents, if you want the BEST for your child; and we all do and you are still at Campus School I challenge you to have your child privately tested.  You certainly do not want to have your child to complete Elementary School only to find they will struggle in Middle School.  One source for private testing is Pat Schaffer (you can Google her for contact information and reputation).

The bottom line is that public schools (non-magnet) such as Barfield, Siegel, etc. have implemented programs years ago that Campus School is beginning to implement.  Other than being a small school, which is irrelevant because parents are not allowed to actively participate unless they are in the principals favor (easy to find a list of these parents, if you check the Campus PTC website you will find a list of family sponsors which is the “core” list of families Bridgeman favors; because they openly support her “hostile environment” tactics).

Campus is a non-magnet, Principal’s choice school.  Now, Chontel is trying to sell it as the “feel” of a private school in the latest e-mail posted below.  Campus School is a PUBLIC school paid for by tax payer’s dollars; and it certainly does NOT have the “feel” of a private school.  There is no special testing or acceptance required; no matter how the principal try’s to sell it.  Get on the list and you will get in . . . . Campus School is still functioning on its past reputation for the few that still want in based on that reputation.  It is a sad time for Campus for she has been taken from “a Legacy” to ordinary, with ordinary leadership and teachers.

Just to re-enforce the point . . . . If you want the BEST for your child; and we all do and you are still at Campus School I challenge you to have your child privately tested and find out for yourself.  There is no need to “choose sides”.  Be an advocate for YOUR CHILD, that is who matters . . . .have them tested!

I don’t know anything about the IXL Math program. But let’s consider for a moment that the computer programs are very beneficial to student performance. That could be a godsend to the education budget…..no benefit packages, no union negotiations, no vacation or sick leave. It could lead to a greater teacher/pupil ratio. Fewer classrooms needed, fewer schools to be built and staffed. What do you think? If we are educating to increase scores, then this sounds like a marvelous idea. Forget about the “life-long learning” skills, the care and nurturing, the foundation of life-skills…..those are not on the test.
